Cincinnati Global's Lloyd's syndicate refuses to insure controversial East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline

Cincinnati Global's syndicate at Lloyd's has announced that it will not insure the controversial East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline, following a week of global protests. This decision was confirmed by Active Underwriter Nick Chalk, who stated that the company "100% do not write this project and we have no intention of ever writing it."

However, Talbot (AIG) at Lloyd's has not made a statement, leading to accusations of complicity with the project. The protests coincided with a French civil court hearing against Total, which was ruled inadmissible on a technicality, and reports of escalating harassment and detention by the Ugandan state.

The East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline has been the subject of international criticism due to associated human rights abuses and environmental concerns. Environmental and human rights groups have urged AIG and Talbot to listen to the concerns of local communities and prioritize the protection of people and the planet over profit.
