European Leader in District Heating Faces Protests Over Involvement in Controversial EACOP

Climate activists in Austria, Germany, Italy, and Uganda have staged protests targeting the isoplus-GROUP, a prominent European leader in district heating technology, for its role in constructing the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP). The EACOP, poised to become the world's longest heated oil pipeline, is projected to emit a staggering 34 million tonnes of CO2 annually and displace approximately 100,000 people in Uganda and Tanzania.

As environmental and social justice groups intensify their opposition, numerous financial institutions have already withdrawn their support. Activists are now urging isoplus to sever ties with the high-risk fossil fuel project, emphasizing the stark contradiction between advocating sustainability and contributing to the alarming impacts of global warming.
