African CSOs Urge Oman to Distance Itself from EACOP as East Africa Trade Expo Kicks Off
African Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) are targeting the Oman East Africa Trade and Investment Expo to raise awareness about the potential involvement of the Sultanate of Oman in funding the highly controversial East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).
The 70 CSOs from East African countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), published an open letter urging the Government of Oman not to offer any support to the EACOP project.
This letter comes against the backdrop of media reports that the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) was seeking out the Oman government to secure funding for the project. EACOP has struggled to get financing after major banks ruled out support. Click here to read the coalition’s press release.
